James Alfred Fleming, formerly of Granville passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Newark. He was born Monday, January 23, 1933 to Paul and Dorothy (St. Clair) Fleming in Alexandria. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1950 and received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree from Ohio University in 1954. He also served in the United States Army stationed at Ft Bragg, North Carolina.

Jim spent his career as a Civil Engineer with the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 5, in Newark, Ohio where he was involved with the construction of Interstate 70 and other significant highway routes in East and Central Ohio. He was a member of Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church in Newark and at one time active as a Trustee and Usher. He thoroughly enjoyed and was proud of his Day Lilly Collection, two gardens and a variety of fruit and apple trees at his Granville home of 43 years. He was also an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Football fan of many years and enjoyed many trips to Cincinnati with his wife and son from the 1970’s through 2011.

Surviving are his wife of 56 Years, Ruth Ann Fleming, son Jack Fleming, sister Mary Abbott (Jim) of Tennessee, brother “Spank” Paul Fleming (Barbara) of Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Elberta Accorsi (Frank) and Sister Shirley E. Schmiedeler (Louis) of Kansas.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 25th from 6-8 P.M. at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville, where brief memorial remembrances will be shared at 7 P.M. with the participation of those attending. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com. Jim’s cremains will be spread by his son, Jack in a chosen location near Dresden, Ohio the same as his late sister.
