Jane S. Hall

Jane Hall, 81-years-old, passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, November 26, 2022 after celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday surrounded by friends and loved ones. In honor of the holiday, Jane shared her love of poetry and gratitude by reading aloud.

Jane was born Sept. 2, 1941, in Clendenin, W. Va. to Billie and Max Simmons. She earned her BSW and MSW from West Virginia University and professionally served as a hospital social worker at facilities in the Cleveland and Columbus areas, as well as the Geisinger Institute in Danville, Pennsylvania.

Jane was a political activist, avid traveler, and matriarch that loved music, art, and poetry, a good debate, the Obamas, the beach, and, of course, Cleveland sports. She fiercely loved her family and friends, insisting on deep conversations and gatherings welcoming any and all to her home.

Jane is survived in life by her sisters Sara Chapman, Mollie (Jeff) Fout, and dear friend Emily Hannah; children, Sara (Mark) Friedman, Rob (Kristine) Hall, and Gretchen (Aaron) Kerr; grandchildren, Nick (Kate) Friedman, Lindsay (Tyler) Scalf, Elias and Maxwell Kerr, and Gracie and Charlie (Meghan) Hall; nephews, Steve (Aimee) Starbuck and Russell Starbuck; great-grandchildren, J.R. Friedman and Steven Kerr; and grand-niece, River Starbuck. She was preceded in death by many loved ones including her parents, beloved husband Chuck Hall, and her grandson Alex Friedman.

A private, family viewing and visitation will be held at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home 133 South Prospect Street, Granville, Ohio 43023, 740-587-0161 . Friends and family are invited to join together at a memorial service from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Amelia Room at Otterbein Granville SeniorLife Community, 2158 Columbus Rd. Granville, Ohio 43023, 740-321-0400 .

In lieu of flowers, Jane would prefer loved ones honor her memory by voting in the next election.
