A memorial service celebrating the life of Jefferson Davis Robinson, III, will be held at The Church of The Holy Spirit, Harcourt Parish, Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio on Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Helen Svoboda-Barber and The Rev. Stephen Applegate (rector of St. Luke's, Granville) will officiate. Burial will follow at the College Cemetery. Mr. Robinson died August 26, 2011 at Kendal at Granville.
Jeff was born March 5, 1923 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Christine (Miller) and Jefferson Davis Robinson, Jr. He attended Maumee Valley Country Day School in Toledo, Ohio, Thacher School in Ojai, California, and graduated in 1942 from Kent School in Kent, Connecticut. He attended Williams College. A recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, Mr. Robinson served in the U.S. Army's 96th Infantry Division during WWII in the Pacific Theater before returning to school at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon.
Jeff worked for many years as the Sales Manager for The Federal Glass Company in Columbus, Ohio. Later he sold real estate, working as the Vice President and Managing Broker for The Danberry Company in Toledo, Ohio. His most preferred professional post was serving as the Director of Alumni Affairs at Kenyon College, a position he held until his retirement. In the spring of 1988, Jeff received an Honorary Degree from Kenyon College.
Devoted to his family and family-gatherings, Jeff sailed Rebels, played tennis, and was a draftsman. Meticulous in his bookkeeping system, Jeff kept accurate records in all his endeavors. Jeff was known for his great devotion and loyalty, his humor, and his commitment to supporting his many schools. He volunteered actively with The Boys and Girls Clubs of Toledo, St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, and Kenyon College.
Surviving are his wife Anne Jeffrey Robinson, whom he married in 1948; daughter and son-in-law Christine (Trina) Robinson Secor and James Jay Secor, III of Knoxville, Tennessee and Perrysburg, Ohio, sons and daughters-in-law Jefferson Davis Robinson IV and Carolyn Robinson of Portsmouth, VA and The Rev. Canon Mark Kilbourne Jeffrey Robinson and Eleanor Perkins Robinson of Old Lyme, Connecticut; grandchildren, Virginia Secor Shaw, Jay Ketcham Miller Secor, Caroline Secor Masterson, Christine Mueller Robinson, Jefferson Davis Robinson V, Sewell Standish Robinson, Frances Gamble Robinson and Florence Kilbourne Robinson; great grandchildren Harry Alexander Shaw V, Celia Phelps Shaw, James Secor Halvorsen Shaw, Jay Hutchins Masterson, and Sarah Ketcham Secor. Also surviving are his brother, Joseph Lawrence Robinson and sister Judy Robinson Heckes; sister Estelle Robinson Burke died in 2008.
