Private family services will be held at a later date for Jennie Veradeen Preston, 87, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Alexandria. Mrs. Preston died Jan. 19, 2007, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Mt. Sterling, to the late Lilly Viva (Verian) and John William Follrod. Mrs. Preston was a graduate of Mt. Sterling High School. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband on their farm for over 50 years. Surviving are her husband of 55 A½ years, John C. "Jack" Preston whom she married June 6, 1951; daughter, Cora Lee Powelson of Mt. Vernon; grandson, Charles Lee Preston of Mt. Vernon; granddaughter, Donna J. Powelson of Mt. Vernon; four great-grandsons, Sam and Alex Preston, and Austin and Dakota Powelson; caregiver and dear friend, Kris Smith; two sisters; two brothers; five step grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons and six brothers. Friends and family may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the McPeek Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville.
