A funeral service for Johann Bast, 74, of Alexandria will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 309 W. Broadway, Granville with Pastor Daniel Ruff officiating. Military honors will follow conducted by Wright Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard.
Mr. Bast died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark. He was born July 28, 1933 in New York City, NY to Hans and Wilhelmina Johanna (Kappelmann) Bast.
Johann was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church where he served on the Building Committee, Fellowship # 265 F & A.M., O.E.S. Reber Chapter #161, and Scottish Rite. He enjoyed tole painting, wood carving, and building.
After a 26 year career with the U.S. Air Force, Johann, retired as a Master Sargent with the 86th Tactical Fighter Wing in Ramstein Germany. During this time he had served his country in Korea and Guam.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Ann (Hunt) Bast,whom he married May 12, 1957; sons and daughter-in-law, Johann and Maria Bast of Plano, TX and Eric Bast and his fiancAC., Terry Gibson of Clintonville; grandchildren, Ingrid Johanna McLane and Johann Christian Bast; and brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Helene Bast of New Rochelle, NY.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McPeek Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville.
