A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph F. Ciricosta, 83, of Granville, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Saint Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 785 Newark-Granville Rd., Granville with Monsignor Paul P. Enke as celebrant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with full military honors rendered by the U.S. Navy and Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Ciricosta, who retired in 1989 after 22 years as Principal of Jacksontown School in the Lakewood Local School District, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. He was born in Salem, OH in 1931 to Rocco and Josephine (Calabrese) Ciricosta.
A graduate of Salem High School, Mr. Ciricosta received his B.S. in Education from Edinboro State Teachers College, Masters in Education from Kent State and did post Masters studies at the University of Akron, The Ohio State University, and Ashland College. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy. Prior to serving as Principal of Jacksontown School, he taught in Mentor and Chardon.
A member of Saint Edwards Church and Knights of Columbus, Council #10876, Joe was a 44 year member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Granville during which he was awarded Kiwanian of the Year and the Walter Zeller Award. He had served on the Board of Directors of the Community Mental Health and Recovery Board, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Licking County, and served in the Allocation Division of United Way of Licking County. After his retirement he worked for 10 years as a Weekend Circulation Supervisor at the Denison Library.
Surviving are his daughter, Beverly A. (Thomas) DeHaven of North Canton, OH and sister, Theresa Fithian of Salem, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Bernice (Cervone) Ciricosta, who died November 17, 2007 and sisters, Mary Grasso and Rose (Marvin) Roberts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edwards Church, 785 Newark-Granville Rd., Granville, OH 43023, or it was Joe's wish to do something kind for another person.
