A memorial service celebrating the life of Joseph W. Mascari, 76, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 1, 2010 at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville with Deacon Bob Ghiloni officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Welsh Hills Cemetery.
Joe passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 surrounded by his family at home. He was born May 25, 1934 in Kokomo, IN to the late Barth R. and Bertha M. (Burton) Mascari.
A veteran of the Korean War, Joe served as a gunner in B29's and B50's in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Newark and recent member of the American Legion Post 85.
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joe was loved by everyone. A stranger to no one, he will be remembered most for his outgoing nature and his wonderful sense of humor.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Florence C. (Jeanise) Mascari, whom he married Sept. 12, 1959; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael V.(Sylvia) Taylor of New Braunfels, TX, Mark A. (Andrea Schneider) Mascari of Newark, Steven E. (Joanie) Mascari of Reynoldsburg, and Michael R. Mascari of El Paso, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel M. (Erike) Bulderbergs of Pataskala; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Howard of Ocoee, FL.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Rosetta Briggs and Cecelia Roth.
