A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph R. Pritchard, 94, of Granville, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009 at The Church of Saint Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, with Msgr. Paul Enke as celebrant. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with military honors provided by Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Mr. Pritchard died Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the LPN Health Care Facility in Newark. He was born Sept. 23, 1915 in Shawnee, Ohio to the late Charles and Florence (Welsh) Pritchard.
Joseph was a retired mail carrier for the Newark Post Office. During WWII, Joseph proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, 27th Infantry Division, for four years in the South Pacific Theatre. He was member of The Church of Saint Edward the Confessor, Order of The Moose Lodge #391, and American Legion Post # 85, both of Newark.
Joseph greatly enjoyed playing poker and attending auctions. He was always a lot of fun to be around and will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor.
Surviving are his granddaughter and her husband, Maura and Mark Urban of Newark; grandson, Brian Pritchard of Newark; and great-grandsons, Alexander and Ethan Urban of Newark.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Virginia (Bean) Pritchard; son, Patrick Pritchard; four brothers, and six sisters.
