A loving, caring, and faithful woman, Joyce M. Skinner Fleitz, 86, of Granville, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Brookdale Senior Living in Newark. She was born in Springfield, Illinois to the late Fred and Neva Skinner.
A 1950 graduate of Rochester High School, Joyce attended Millikin University and was formerly employed as facilities coordinator at The Jewish Center of Greater Columbus and was a retired administrative assistant with Licking County Job and Family Services.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Stephen Minister, Joyce was a former member of Granville P.T.O., Granville Music Club, Twentieth Century Club, TWIG #15, a volunteer at Licking Memorial Hospital, Granville Historical Society, and she wrote Bon Appetite, a weekly column, for the Granville Sentinel. She enjoyed gardening, bridge, and spending time with family on the beaches of North Carolina. She was a passionate tennis player and past president of the Granville Tennis Club. This past summer she was sponsored by “Wish of a Lifetime” to attend the U.S. Tennis Open. She will be remembered as a loving and courageous mother who was devoted to family, most especially her beloved grandchildren.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, William and Tracey Fleitz, III; and Michael and Darlinda Fleitz; grandchildren, Amelia, Adeline, and Aliza; and faithful, canine companion, Hank.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her son, Duke Fleitz; former husband, William Fleitz, Jr.; long-time companion, Dewey Albright; brothers, Jack and infant Elliot; sisters, Jeanane and Helen; and step-mother Ester.
A memorial service celebrating Joyce’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on February 15, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant. The family will receive friends in Heritage Hall at the church following the service. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
