Judith "Judy" H. Mcconnell

A memorial service celebrating the life of Judith "Judy" Heringhaus McConnell. 72, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Swasey Chapel, Denison University, in Granville with Pastor Gary Kirkpatrick and family friend, Keith Kresge as celebrants. A private graveside service will be held at Welsh Hills Cemetery in Granville.

Judy passed away, Saturday, July 26, 2014 at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus. She was born February 6, 1942 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Helen (Bittner) and Francis J. "Sam" Heringhaus, M.D.

An educator for more than 50 years, Judy was a passionate and life-long learner. She received her Ph.D. in education from the Ohio State University and held two Master's degrees, one from the University of Michigan and the second from O.S.U. In addition to teaching in Columbus, Mansfield, and Newark, she was the Director of Education at Twin Valley Psychiatric Center. She was a fierce advocate and champion of children. She will be remembered for her love of family, oneness with her husband, and positive outlook on life.

Surviving are her life partner and husband of 36 years, Kenton R. McConnell; children, Joseph Andrew "Andy" McConnell and his wife, Darilynn, Kelly Jean "Bow" McConnell and her partner, Bonnie Hankins, Ian Patrick McConnell, Elizabeth McCarroll, and Fiona McDonald; grandchildren, Elijah, Nora, Grace, Renji, Brooklyn, Payton, Naomi, Clay, Max and Sonja; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. John and Terry Heringhaus; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Skip Condric; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her grandson, Alex.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
