Julia Margaret Shumway, 64, of Westlake, Ohio passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013 after a three year battle with lung cancer. Julia was born to the late Rev. Archibald Dixon and Roona Rollit, February 19, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Julia was a National Merit Finalist and went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Denison University in 1970. Julia married John Shumway in 1972, they settled in Columbus, Ohio and later moved to Westlake, Ohio.
Julia is survived by her husband, John; three children, Nathan, Thomas, and Margot; cherished grandchildren, Adam, Jack, and Luke; and her sister, Sheila Tetler.
An Educator, Julia began her career with developmentally challenged adults and she later taught graphic arts at Cuyahoga Community College. She carried her enthusiasm for education in to the private sector at Earnst and Young, Intellinex, and ACS where she managed teams of instructional designers. Most recently she served as eLearning Manager at the Cleveland Clinic Education Institute.
A voracious reader, Julia enjoyed watercolor painting, jewelry-making, knitting, and playing the piano.
A graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville at 3:30 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2014 with Rev. Dr. Stephen H. Applegate officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service, from 1 to 3 P.M. on Friday at the McPEEK-HOEKSTRA FUNERAL in Granville.
