June T. Mentzer
June 15, 1920 — January 14, 2014
A memorial service celebrating the life of June T. Mentzer, 93, of Granville, will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Karen J. Chakoian, the Rev. Trip Porch and Chaplain Mark Pierce as celebrants.
June died peacefully January 14, 2014, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio, surrounded by family and friends. She was born June 15, 1920 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Robert P and Edna G. (Korth) Townsend.
During WWII, June served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant at Fort Douglas, Utah and was active with the USO. She attended Columbus School for Girls and Goucher College and received her B.A. and M.A. in psychology from The Ohio State University. June worked tirelessly for the children of Licking County through her work with the Starlight School, the Headstart Program, Licking County Schools and private practice. She was the first school psychologist for the Licking County school system. June retired as a School Psychologist and Director of Special Education for Licking County Schools.
June was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Granville where she served on many committees and as an Elder. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Ohio School Psychologists Association (Honorary Life Member), also Review Club, Monday Talks and several bridge clubs, where she enjoyed spending time with many dear friends. She enjoyed attending all of the local arts, theater, and orchestra performances.
Surviving are her children, Robert (Louise) Brown of Hampton, NH, Betsy Mentzer of Newark, Julie Pridgen of Granville, Kathryn Tatham of Granville, and Kristyn Mentzer of Granville; grandchildren, Wesley and Stephen (Katie) Pridgen, Hannah Tatham, Sean, Jennifer, and Michael Ouellette; six great-grandchildren; sister, Betsy Zahn; nephew, Jon (Suzy) Zahn and their family, Emily and Greg; niece, Laurel (Mike) Toucan and their daughter, Michelle.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W Mentzer; and sons-in-law, Ron Harper and Ernie Tatham.
