Lillian Ione (Hughes) Thompson, 86, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2014 with family by her side. She was born in Johnstown, PA to the late Harold P. and Catherine (Hiner) Hughes. After graduating from Timken Vocational High School in 1946 and spending most of her life in Canton raising her family, Lil and her husband enjoyed the leisure of retirement in Keowee Key, SC. Ultimately, Lil relocated to Winston-Salem where she remained close to her children and grandchildren. Lillian was a devoted wife and mother who cherished her family.
Surviving are her children, Charles (Susan) Thompson of Mt. Gilead, NC, John (Theresa) Thompson of Columbus, Patricia Hearne of Winston-Salem, NC, David (Sarah) Thompson of Cartersville, GA, Ann (Kenneth) Roush of Winston-Salem, NC Mary (William) Hoekstra of Granville, Karen (Mark) Nussbaumer of Winston-Salem, NC, and Kelly Bowman of Wooster; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother Dr. David (Bonnie) Hughes of Paulding, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John T. Thompson, and one brother, Harold P. Hughes, Jr. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, December 6th, 2014 @ 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 3430 St. Michael Dr., Canton, OH with Rev. Donald King as celebrant. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
