A funeral service celebrating the life of Lloyd E. Philipps, 92, of Granville, will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Casey Wilson and Rev. Jeff Smith as co-celebrants. Burial will follow at Welsh Hills Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
A lifelong resident and 1942 graduate of Granville High School, Lloyd attended Denison University. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant with Company F, 157th Infantry Regiment in France, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. Lloyd retired after a 35 year career with Owens Corning.
Lloyd enjoyed fishing and being with family. He attended Centenary United Methodist Church and was a member of Welsh Hills Baptist Church, American Legion Post 398-Granville, VFW Post 1060-Newark, Eagles, and was a dedicated member of the Licking County Veterans Alliance, Funeral Honor Detail.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Rhea D. (Brown) Philipps; children and their spouses, Bud and Mary Philipps, Becky and Cork Bush, Robin and Sidney Lantz, Luann and Tony Barsotti, Sara Philipps, and Tim Philipps; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 3 great, great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by sons, Michael D. and David A. Philipps; Grandson, Anthony Barsotti; brothers, Thomas E. Philipps and Samuel D. Philipps; and sisters, Wilma Hughes, and Mary Villars.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. on Tuesday at the McPEEK-HOEKSTRA FUNERAL HOME, 133 S. Prospect St., in Granville.
