A memorial service for Lorraine Starcke, 88, of Granville will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville, with the Rev. Karen Chakoian officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Mrs. Starcke, a retired high school teacher, died May 25, 2008, at Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born July 10, 1919, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Malcolm B. and Henrietta (Mayer) Taylor.
Lorraine received her B.A. in Education from Denison University with a major in English and a minor in Spanish. She taught at Jamaica High School in Long Island, New York and later at Columbus School for Girls. She was also a Spanish interpreter for 13 years at the Newark Air Force Base. Lorraine was a former member and past Matron of the Granville O.E.S. #384, which later merged with the Licking County Chapter of O.E.S. #551. She was a charter member of O.E.S. chorus and a member of Amaranth. In addition, Lorraine was member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granville where she was past president of the Women's Association and a member of the choir for over 30 years. Loved and appreciated by many, she will be greatly missed and long remembered.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William and Elizabeth Starcke of Leeds, Alabama; daughter and son-in-law, Starr and Michael Donlon of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, James David Matton and his wife, Jennifer, and Anne Jennifer Matton of Virginia Beach, VA; great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Anne Matton; and favorite companion, "Sheba".
