A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Margery J. (Taylor) Hendey, 97, of Granville at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd, Granville with Father Timothy Hayes as celebrant. Burial immediately following Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Monday, at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home 133 S. Prospect St, Granville.
Margery passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 16, 1927, in Newark, New Jersey to the late George L. and Irma G. (Williams) Taylor.
Margery was a stay-at-home mom raising 5 boys. Once her boys got older, she worked part time and started going to night school at Rutgers University. Margery graduated with a Master of Library Science degree. She was the Director of the Hasbrook Heights Library in New Jersey before retiring to Granville.
She became a very active member of St. Edward’s parish. Margery would always volunteer for various committees, but her passion was the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was a founding member, a tireless worker, and a leader. She was awarded the Society’s top honor, The Top Hat Award at age 87 for her remarkable service and commitment to the needy of the area. Margery was an avid quilter and produced many beautiful bedspreads and wall hangings. She belonged to the heart of Ohio Quilt Guild.
Margery was a devoted wife, a caring sister, a terrific mother/grandmother, and a friend to anyone she met. She would always listen and take time for others. Even thought society made it difficult for women she never let that stop her from achieving her goals. Margery was an advocate for women and the poor.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, William “Bill” C. Hendey in 2021 and a sister, Phyllis A. Taylor.
Margery is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Peter G. (Carolyn), William S. (Anne), Gerard L., Paul C., Daniel F. (Elizabeth); 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren
