Marilyn L. Hiles

A. funeral service for Marilyn L. Hiles, 85, of Granville will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville with the Rev. Robert Settlage officiating. Burial will follow at Welsh Hills Cemetery in Granville.

Marilyn died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born May 22, 1925, the daughter of the late Harry and Gladys (Davidson) Witschy of New Straitsville, Ohio.

Marilyn was employed for 25 years as a secretary in the Biology Department at Denison University. During World War II, and for several years thereafter, she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Columbus.

An avid reader who loved animals, Marilyn supported the Licking County Humane Society and had served as a corresponding secretary of the LCHS. She enjoyed attending church suppers in Newark, Granville, and Hebron and was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Granville. She also enjoyed growing tomatoes and doing yard work around her home.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Carolyn Hiles of Granville; grandchildren, Kimberly (Chad) Higgins, and Daniel Hawk; great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Marina Higgins; and several nephews and nieces.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ward R. Hiles, who passed away on October 11, 1992; and by her beloved cairn terriers, Carrie and Kelly.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McPEEK-HOEKSTRA FUNERAL HOME in Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
