Marjorie J. Overman

A memorial service celebrating the life of Marjorie J. Overman, 90, of Newark, formerly of Granville, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Karen Chakoian officiating.  Private graveside services will be held at Poplar Fork Cemetery in Gratiot.

Marjorie died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark.  She was born December 9, 1918, on her family's dairy farm where she grew up, in Union City, to the late Augusta (Stone) and Howard Mills.

After raising her children, Marjorie was employed at Olin Corporation in Connecticut as a secretary for 20 years.  Later, in 1988, she and her husband moved from Connecticut and resided in Granville.   Marjorie enjoyed camping with the family throughout the U.S. and traveling abroad, especially Switzerland.  While recently living at Sharonbrooke Inn, she was the proud recipient of the Senior Citizens Spelling Bee Award of Licking County for 3 years.  She also loved attending church and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granville.

Surviving are her son, Mark Overman of Granville; daughters and son-in-law, Nancy and Glen Strezze of Bristol, Conn., and Diane Overman of Asheville, NC; daughter-in-law, Sue Overman of Morgantown, W. Va.; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Marjorie, was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, E. Orton Overman, whom she married August 8, 1942; son, Dennis Overman; infant daughter, Charlotte; two brothers; and two sisters.
