Martha L. Tavener

A memorial service celebrating the life of Martha L. Tavener, 91, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Janice Hilkerbaumer as celebrant. The family will receive friends following the service in Heritage Hall at the church. A private graveside service will be held at Welsh Hills Cemetery.

Mrs, Tavener passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at Kendal at Granville. She was born in 1923 in Granville, Ohio to the late William P. and Rachel (Jones) Ramsay. She attended Denison University and was employed there for 44 years working as a secretary in both the Psychology Department and Library.

Martha was an 80 year member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon. She was also a member of Twig #6, a Girl Scout Leader, and founding member of Kendal at Granville. She loved animals, whether it be trail riding one of her four horses, caring for her cats and dogs, or watching and feeding the birds. Additionally, traveling, sewing, crossword puzzles, and reading biographies were a few of her many interests and passions in life. Most importantly, Martha will be remembered as a caring and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.

Surviving are her daughters, Bobbie Eckhoff and her husband Bob of Maryland and Janet Uhl of California; grandsons, Brian and Mark Uhl; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband William O. Tavener, who died in 1992 and brother, Thomas A. Ramsay.
