A memorial service for Mary K. Campbell, of Lexington, KY, formerly of Granville, will be held on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 27, 2008, at the First Baptist Church, 115 W. Broadway, Granville, with the Rev. Dr. Kathy Fuson Hurt officiating. A reception will follow. Interment will be in section two of Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Mary K died July 26, 2008, in Lexington. She was born in 1914, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Edward and Caroline Deckman. She was a generous friend, an inspirational teacher, and a devoted mother.
Mary K's interest in higher education and art led her to attend Denison University and The National Academy of Design in NYC where she met her husband, Kenneth Campbell. They moved to Boston and then Provincetown, MA, where she pursued her art and started a family.
In 1956, Mary K returned to Denison and taught in the art department for 22 years before retiring. Her color rich zest for living found creative expression in her prints and stained glass. She was a gift of joy and happiness and she loved to keep in touch with her family as well as hundreds of friends and former students. Her exuberant, warm, and often wildly funny notes were a bright spot for all. In the small town of Granville, she was known to masquerade in costume as a character she had created to spread good cheer. She sought out the simple joys in life and lived in gratitude for all that life had to offer. She continues to live in the hearts of those who loved her.
Surviving are her daughter, Janet Campbell; her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Dee Campbell; grandchildren, Austin and Brenna Campbell; and her brother-in-law, Michael Cramer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Colin Campbell, and her sister, Martha Cramer.
