Michael "Mike" Hughes

Michael “Mike” Hughes, age 64 of Granville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Licking Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 26, 1958, in Newark to the late Doug and Linda (Satterfield) Hughes.

Mike is a 1977 graduate of Granville High School.  He played on the football and baseball teams.  He attended both Otterbein and Ohio University and worked as the caretaker of New Hope Lutheran Church in Granville for over 25 years.

Mike was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed local high school football.  He was known for his photographic memory often quoting obscure scores and facts from years ago.

Mike was known for his honesty and was a dedicated hard worker.  He was often seen riding his bike around town.

He is survived by his brothers, Matthew Hughes and Andy (Marcy) Hughes; nephew, Josh Hughes and many friends.

A gathering to celebrate Mike’s life will be held from 2-4 PM Saturday, September 23, 2023, at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville, Ohio 43023.  A private burial will be held later at Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville.
