Mona Jean Nash, age 87, died December 6, 2009 in the Special Care wing of the Brooke in SharonBrooke, Newark, Ohio.
Mona was born on September 12, 1922 in Hemlock, Ohio to Letitia (Harris) and Charles Hines and lived most of her life in Perry County. She married Paul George Nash on March 6, 1942 and together they raised five children: Mary Lee (Richard) Van Meter of Granville, Ohio, Cynthia Susan (Thomas) Beach of Land O Lakes, Florida, Lynda Louise Swallow of Ocala, Florida, Daniel Charles (Gwen) Nash of Moreland Hills, Ohio and Christy Ann Hand of Bremen, Ohio. She truly touched the lives of her sixteen grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with fifteen great-grandchildren.
Mona and Paul retired to Deltona, Florida in 1981 where they golfed, played cards and welcomed many Ohio visitors. Mona loved music and poetry and she was an avid reader. After Paul's death in 1996, she traveled throughout the United States and to Europe with her children... always seeking new friends and experiences.
Mona moved to SharonBrooke in April, 2006. There, she delighted aides and guests as she danced and sang throughout the halls. Her slow retreat into Alzheimer's desease was a great sorrow for all of her family but frequently her wonderful spirit would surface and brighten the lives of those who loved and cared for her. Her family appreciates the support of Hospice of Central Ohio during her final months and especially, the tender care that was provided by the nurses and aides at SharonBrooke.
In addition to her husband, Mona was preceded in death by her infant son Paul Gerard and her sister, Eloene Gornall. She is survived by her brother Thomas Hines of Whitehall, Ohio.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at St. Rose Church in New Lexington, Ohio. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com
