Nancy N. Burdick

April 4, 1930 — September 22, 2014

A celebration of life for Nancy N. Burdick, 84, of Newark, and of Granville, will be held at 2:00 P.M. October 4, 2014 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 107 E. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Dr. Stephen H. Applegate as celebrant.

Mrs. Burdick died September 22, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born April 4, 1930 in Middletown, Ohio to the late Harold D. and Virginia (Sheets) Neill.

She was a graduate of Middletown High School and Mount Holyoke College and held the degree Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University College of Law.

An attorney, Nancy was a passionate and effective advocate for under served people. She was an avid and accomplished bird watcher in her daily life. She was a founder of and/or instrumental in the creation of many organizations including Granville Recycling Center, Welsh Hills School, the Food Pantry Network of Licking County; and participated in many efforts for the greater good all her life including Another Mother for Peace, the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign, Women Have Options and Friends of the Mounds. (It is not unlikely that we, her family, have forgotten to name some and mean no slight by our mistake.)

June 3, 1985, Nancy was commissioned by the Governor of The State of Ohio, Richard F. Celeste, as a member of the Litter Control and Recycling Advisory Committee.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 55 years, The Rev. Edward N. Burdick II; children, Elizabeth N. Burdick-Romero and David N. Burdick, grandchildren, Francisco Antonio Burdick-Romero and Luci Denkewalter Burdick and her nephew David S. Neill, Jr., and niece Leslie Neill Thomas. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Griffith Burdick, and by her brothers, Harold Dwight Neill, Jr., and David Starbuck Neill.

The family will receive friends October 2, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. at McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to any of the following: Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Emily's List, Southern Poverty Law Center, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).
