A funeral service celebrating the life of Norma “Allene” Blackstone, age 93, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, at Centenary United Methodist Church with Pastor Casey Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, September 30, at Centenary Church, 102 East Broadway, Granville.
Allene was born January 25, 1931 in Alexandria, Ohio to the late Claude DeVere Elder and the late Dorothy Mae (Jones) Elder. She passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Altercare Newark North.
A 1948 graduate of Alexandria High School where she was a cheerleader and State Homemaker, Allene also attended Office Training School in Columbus. She was formerly employed with Granville Electric and operated Blackstone’s Butcher Block and Deli with her husband Gib for many years. Allene and Gib received the Granville Sertoma Service to Mankind Award for their service to the community.
Allene was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church where she was active in the Morning Glory Circle. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters, was a 70-year member of the Wahneta Chapter #235 Order of the Eastern Star in Pataskala, and was active with the TWIG at Licking Memorial, the Erinwood Condo Association, and the Tuesday Morning Coffee Group. Allene enjoyed reading, word finds and watching her grand and great-grandchildren’s activities. She was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes football and basketball teams.
She is survived by four children, Phillip (Sandy Martin) Blackstone of Granville, Jerry L. (Carol Martz) Blackstone of Pataskala, Connie (Bill) Toth of Heath, and Tim (Joyce Cordray) Blackstone of Newark; ten grandchildren, Alexis Rafter, Desirée Ratcliffe, Justin Blackstone, Jessica Beck, Austin Blackstone, Adam Werner, Angela Farley, Annie Toth, Travis Blackstone, and Kevin Blackstone; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special neighbors, Marilyn Brown, Carolyn Brubaker, and Noreen Pinkerton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Guilbert E. “Gib” Blackstone, who died November 30, 2002; and by a brother, Jim Elder.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church, the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, or the Granville Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the church.
