Norma Jean Holman

August 17, 1932 — April 20, 2023

Alexandria

Norma Jean Kent Holman, age 90, of Alexandria peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at her home.

Norma was born August 17, 1932 in Newark, Ohio to the late Frank E. and Marie G. (Pierson) Smith.

Norma retired from the Owens Corning Tech Center where she had been an executive secretary. Throughout her 17 years at the company, she successfully worked her way up after originally starting as a temp through Kelly Girl Services. She had many hobbies and interests but spending time with her grandchildren was at the top of the list. Norma also had a love for all animals -  feather or fur - and cats were a constant companion throughout her life. Outside of spending time with her favorite people and pets, she also enjoyed flower gardening and working in the yard, reading, playing the piano, and golfing. A talented seamstress, Norma made clothing for her children when they were younger and also taught them to sew. Keeping busy after retirement, Norma was the secretary for the Alexandria Buckeye Seniors Club for 18 years and was on the kitchen committee for 12 years for the Owens Corning Retirees. Across family and friends, she loved laughing and she was quite the prankster.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, John A. Holman; three daughters, Deborah Hoekstra of Granville, Betsy Kent of Galena, and Amy Kent (Jim Donaker) of Newark; five grandchildren, Aaron (Lucy) Stephens, Jason (Kelli) Stephens, Amber Hoekstra, Colleen O’Morrow, and Rachel O’Morrow; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Harvey and Maclan Stephens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former spouse, Thomas R. Kent.

A funeral service celebrating Norma’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at the Alexandria United Methodist Church, 72 Church Street in Alexandria, with Pastor David S. Klawitter officiating. Burial will follow in a private ceremony.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, at the McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home, 133 South Prospect Street in Granville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Licking County Humane Society or to the Ohio Wildlife Center.

McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home is honored to care for Norma and her family.
