A memorial service celebrating the life of Peggy C. Hamann, 90, of Granville, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Casey Wilson as celebrant.  A reception will follow in Shepherds Hall.

A dedicated nurse, Peggy died Friday, June 30, 2017 at Chestnut House in Newark. She was born in Crooksville, Ohio to the late Guy and Alice (Watts) Tanner.

A 1947 graduate of Grant Hospital School of Nursing, Peggy enjoyed a life-time of caring for others. In her early career, she worked for the Perry County Health Department and was instrumental in educating and vaccinating the public against Polio. Later she would become the community nurse in Granville where she worked with the Granville Medical Center and cared for the people of Granville and Licking County until her retirement in 1996. After her retirement, Peggy did training for Interim Healthcare in Newark and remained licensed with the State of Ohio until her death, in the event that there was an unexpected need for nurses.

A member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star, Peggy will be remembered as a loving, selfless, and forthright person. She was a good friend to many.

Surviving are her children and their spouses, Susan Hamann, Rick and Michele Hamann, Emily and Spencer Brown, and Ellen and David Long; grandchildren, Anne Bowers, Mark Nickerson, Caleb and Grace Brown, Mary Libertini, Jess (Dani) Libertini, and Zachary and Ashley Hamann; great grandchildren, Camden, Cohen, Nicole, Harper, and Ryan; brother, James (Judi) Scarrett; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard L. Hamann; grandson, Jacob Brown; and brother, Joseph Scarrett.

The family will receive friends Friday from 2-4 and 5-7 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home 133 S. Prospect St., in Granville with an Eastern Star service at 4:45 P.M..  Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
