A memorial service celebrating the life of Ramona Ruth Engle, 90, of Granville will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Karen J. Chakoian as celebrant.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Ramona died Monday, July 1, 2013 at her home. She was born in Peebles, Ohio January 15, 1923 to the late Wilbur E. and Anna R. (Hughes) Davisson.
Ramona was secretary to Rev. Robert J. Butz at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Columbus for 32 years, until her retirement in 1991. She was also previously employed at Fort Hayes and the Veterans Administration. She and her late husband of 50 years, Charles D. Engle, owned and operated a tree farm that would later become the Snowden development. They also owned and operated the Dari Shack in Utica and Harold's Dairy Bar in Granville.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, Ramona was active with the Chloe Wells Circle, served as Deacon, and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Welsh Hills Garden Club and the Newark Ostomy Association where she was editor of the newsletter, Detours. A firm believer in earthly angels, Ramona had many throughout her life. She will be remembered by many as an angel herself.
In addition to her husband, Ramona was preceded in death by her son, Ron V. Engle who died in 1999; daughter-in-law, Linda Engle; brothers, George L. and Joseph W. Davisson; sisters-in-law, Betty Davisson and Helen Bernard.
Surviving are her son, Gary A. Engle of Granville; grandson and his wife, Charles D. and Stacy Engle of Granville; great grandchildren, Alex and Reagan; brother, Robert W. Davisson of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Marian Butler and Rosalind Engle both of Leesburg, OH; brother-in-law, Gerald Bernard of New Vienna, OH; cousin, Charles Martin of Apache Junction, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the McPEEK-HOEKSTRA FUNERAL HOME, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
