A memorial mass will be celebrated for Raymond K. Montgomery, Jr. at 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd., Granville with Monsignor Paul P. Enke as celebrant. A reception will follow in the church hall. A private graveside service was held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
The proprietor of The Bottle Shoppe in Newark, Mr. Montgomery died March 16, 2011 at his home in Florida. He was born in Newark and a life-long resident of Granville, graduating from Granville High School in 1954. He was a winter resident of Hobe Sound, Florida, for the past 12 years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Maxine L. Shafer Montgomery of Granville; two daughters, Teresa (Tony) Timerman of Stevens Point, WI and Laura (David) Bosse of Cincinnati; son, Lloyd (Maureen) Montgomery of Leonardtown, MD; brother, Roger Montgomery of Worthington; two sisters, Janet Carlyle of Tampa, FL and Betsy Gudmundsen of Boise, ID and six grandchildren.
Mr. Montgomery was a charter member of the Granville Sertoma, an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Detroit Tiger fan, shuffleboard player, and Corvette owner. He was a very proud grandfather, and a loving and faithful husband, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010.
In Ridgeway Community, FL., Mr. Montgomery was a member of the Shuffleboard Club, chaired the Neighborhood Watch and was a loyal worker for Bingo.
