Raymond Lee Rausch

November 24, 1932 — May 13, 2010

Raymond Lee Rausch passed away at his home Thursday evening, May 13, 2010 with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 24, 1932 to the late William Andrew and Freda (Maurer) Rausch Lahmers.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010, at noon at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. A memorial gathering celebrating Ray's life will follow afterwards, from 1 to 3 p.m. at College Town House, 334 E. Broadway, Granville, OH.

Ray was a graduate of the Dover High School " Class of 50 ". He received two bachelor degrees from The Ohio State University; one in sociology in 1954 and one in education in 1958. Ray taught economics and history at Newark High School; never forgetting, nor was forgotten by his former students. He later joined Denison University as Assistant Bookstore Manager and retired as Coordinator of the Student Union; maintaining his close relationships with the many students from his time there. He continued with this life long passion for learning and teaching.

Ray served in the U.S. Army Central Command in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War. He and his wife Julie, who worked in the army hospital, made many friends from their years there, many of whom they kept throughout their life.

Ray loved traveling and planning sightseeing trips. He had a special fondness for the American southwest, especially New Mexico and Arizona. His passion for history, current events, and education were all enjoyed on these jaunts.

As a member of the O.S.U. Alumni Association and an avid sports fan, Ray was a devoted follower of all OSU sports and an enthusiastic fan of Buckeye football and basketball. He was raised in the St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover, and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in recent years.

Surviving are his wife, Julianne (Julie) Gotshall Rausch, whom he married October 8, 1954; daughters, Lynn E. Rausch of Newark and Beth A. Rausch Castillo of Milan, Ohio; son, Kurt A. Rausch of Granville; grandsons, Matthew Dickinson of Columbus, Jacob Dickinson of Hebron, and Andrew Dickinson of Newark; great grandson, Aiden Dickinson of Hebron; nephews and nieces, Britt Thrush and Lori Thrush of Florida, Ward Henderson and Connie Henderson Kelley of Florida, and Heather Henderson Provost of Navarre. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Henderson.
