Dr. Maria Regina Figueiredo-Brown, 55, passed away on May 30th.

Originally from São Paulo Brazil, Regina immigrated to the United States as a child. Over her career she earned five degrees, including a PhD in Educational Policy from the University of Wisconsin, all after having three children, whom she raised in Granville.

Regina was an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at East Carolina University. Prior to becoming an academic, she worked as a school teacher, principal, and an innovator in online education. Regina’s professional life was dedicated to the uplifting of the disadvantaged, particularly children.

She passionately loved salsa dancing, church service, and her family, especially her grandchildren. She was known and loved for her courage, her compassion, and for being a loyal friend.

Regina is survived by her three children, Maya (Mark), Matthew (Taylor) and Gabriella (Jon), her mother, Maria Clara Madaleno, her father, Brasilino Figueiredo, brothers Alex and Max (Lucy), and her four grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Gary Brown.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 2486 Newark Granville Rd, Newark, OH, on Saturday, June 4th, at 4:30 PM.
