Richard F Erwin

A funeral service celebrating the life of Richard F. Erwin, 81, of Granville will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville with the Rev. Stephen J. Cramer as celebrant. Burial with follow at 2:00 P.M. at Cedar Point Cemetery in Pasco, Ohio with military honors provided by American Legion Post #217. Richard died Friday, December 23, 2011 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus. He was born Aug 27, 1930 in Sidney, Ohio to the late Dewey and Jessie G. (LeFever) Erwin.

A 1948 graduate of St. Paris High School, Dick served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired after 37 years of service in the Metrology Department at the Newark Air Force Station.

Dick enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood crafting, and fixing just about anything. He was a known jokester, having a great sense of humor. Dick had a kind heart and wouldn't say no to anyone in need. Everybody who knew him, loved him.

Surviving are his son, Brian Erwin of Heath; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbra and Mark Hannahs of Pawleys Island, SC and Diana and Rick Priest, Jr. of Newark; grandchildren, Brittany Priest and Taylor Belliveau and her husband, Adam; brother, Kenneth Erwin of Holgate, Ohio; sister-in-law, Janie Dibert of DeGraff, Ohio and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Sharon A. Erwin, who died November 15, 2000 and one brother, Donald "Sparky" Erwin.
