A funeral service celebrating the life of Richard O. James, 81, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark Granville Rd., Granville with the Rev. Jeffrey J. Pound officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Dick passed away with his family at his side, Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born August 20, 1927 in Granville to the late Mabel E. (Richards) and O. Frank James.
Dick, a 1946 graduate of Union Station High School, was a retired custodian and bus driver for Granville schools for many years. A founding member of Spring Hills Baptist church, he worked as the church custodian for over 20 years. His devotion and love for the church made Spring Hills Baptist Church his second family. Dick will be sadly missed by his family and many friends, and he will be long remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others.
Surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Burgoon, Lois and J.D. Cujas both of Granville, and Betty and Kenneth Camp of Newark; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Becky and Skip Bessell, Jr. of Westerville, Roger and Marsha Nash of Fairbanks, Alaska, Mike and Carol Nash of Westerville, Rick Burgoon of Granville, Rita and Dale Angus of Newark, Judy and John Kempton of Lancaster, Jim and Ann Jenkins of Granville, Joyce and Ed Shanahorn of Westerville, Joni and Joe Campbell of Lancaster, K. Douglas and Suzette Camp of Reynoldsburg, Lynne Jones and Raymundo Marfel of Berlison, TX, Pamela Cetin of Columbus, Julie Duff of Newark, and Kurt and Tammy Camp of Newark.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Nash; and two brothers-in-law, Russell Burgoon and Kenneth Nash.
