A funeral service for Richard W. Mann, 86, of Granville will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Thomas A. Lamb III officiating. Burial will follow at Dawes Arboretum in Newark with full military honors.

Dick died August 7, 2007 at Kendal at Granville. He was born October 10, 1920 in Hebron, North Dakota to the late Paul and Henrietta (Urban) Mann.

Dick attended Dickinson State University then transferred to Kinman Business College in Spokane Washington.  He worked for the Army Engineers until he was drafted into service.

During WWII, Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an aviator. He flew various missions, was shot down in the Sea of Japan, and became a prisoner of war. He continued to serve until his retirement in 1963 as a Commander. He then went on to enjoy a career as a stock broker with Vercoe & Company in Newark.

Dick was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Granville and a member of the Newark Lions Club. He also served on the Boards of the Granville Library and Planned Parenthood.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Dawes Young Mann; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy D. and Roman Steciw of Granville; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard W. Mann of Columbus and Donna Mann of Groveport, and David H. and Elizabeth Mann of Saltillo, New Mexico; grandchildren, Luke (Marnie) Mann, Peter Mann, Dustin (Crystal) Mann, Nathan Mann; David, Elsa, and Dorothy Mann; Stephen, Sally, Paul, and Rebecca Steciw; great granddaughter, Sierra Mann; special friend Jeff and Sarah Swartz and their son Luke.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Fred and Paul Mann.
