Richard Eugene Simon, M.D., a follower of Christ, passed to eternity on September 27, 2022, at the age of 72. He was born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to the late Kenneth R. and Arline Simon.
A family physician, Dr. Simon was a graduate of The Ohio State University, College of Medicine, where he also did his undergraduate work and was an Academic All American playing under the direction of Woody Hayes. A passionate Buckeye, Rick was an intense, hardworking, focused, and intelligent man. Medicine was an important part of his life, and he loved caring for his patients.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Rick cherished his family and prioritized their activities. A Renaissance man, he had a wide variety of interests including reading, gardening, photography, outdoor adventures, and cooking, as well as volunteering as a football coach for his sons’ team, the Granville Blue Aces. He was an Eagle Scout, life-long learner, and member of Spring Hills Baptist Church. He faithfully worked with prison ministries, his church, and the Emmaus community. With a twinkle in his eyes, he loved to tease and laugh.
Surviving are his wife and the love of his life of 50 years, Sandra; sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Maggie Simon, Drew and April Simon, David and Marissa Simon, and Doug and Katelyn Simon; grandchildren, Riley, Ben, Andrew, Hadley, Lane and Crew; brothers, Ross Simon and Robert (Sue) Simon; and sisters-in-law Leslie (Larry) Snyder and Margo (Kit) Clark; and many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
On Saturday, Oct 8, 2022, from 11-1p.m., the family will receive friends at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark Granville Road, Granville. A celebration of Rick’s life will follow with Rev. Tom Pound and Rev. Jeff Smith as celebrants. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
