Richard Snelling

A funeral service celebrating the life of Richard L. Snelling, 75, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville with Pastor Judith Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Welsh Hills Cemetery in Granville.

Dick died Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by family. He was born March 17, 1937 in Newark to the late Kathryn (Willey) and Harold Snelling.

A graduate of Newark High School, Dick worked in food retail sales beginning with Albers and continued within the same industry until his retirement at Buy Rite Food and Deli in Pataskala.

A loving husband, dad, and brother, Dick was a member and elder of Woodside Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed playing softball in Newark and was an avid sports fan, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians. An animal lover, Dick owned several horses and enjoyed Standardbred racing.

Surviving are his wife, Millie M. (Foster) Snelling, whom he married August 2, 1959; daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie and Jim Loper, and Mindy Keelin and John Vannoy, both of Newark; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Richard Way of Newark, and Sharon and Michael Henry of Eugene, Oregon.
