Robert L Miller

A graveside service for Robert L. Miller, 74, of Heath will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 25, 2012 in the Chapel at Newark Memorial Gardens, 4244 Marion Rd.,with Pastor Jerri Lampton officiating.

Robert Lingard Miller ("Bob") was born on December 16, 1937 in Pasadena, California, to the proud parents Wayne and Alice Miller. In 1956, he graduated from Mark Keppel High School, Alhambra, California. He then attended East Los Angeles College before joining the Navy where he was stationed in Atsugi, Japan as an Electronics Technician. Later, in 1979, he would graduate from Fullerton College.

Soon after this return from Japan, he married Margaret Eva Hallick, and they resided in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Their daughter Suzanne Miller Swezey was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He worked for R.C.A. and General Dynamics ("G.D."). G.D. sent him on temporary assignment to Kansas for business and then transferred the family to Swanton, Vermont where he continued his work on the Atlas missiles. They then returned to California in November 1962, where he returned to school at Pierce Junior College. They lived in North Hollywood. Their son Robert Joseph Miller was born one month later in December 1962 in Glendale, California. Not much later, Bob got a job with Hycon and moved the family to Glendora, California in 1963. While working for Hycon on recognizance cameras he was sent to Japan for a several weeks. He was then sent on two temporary assignments to Sumter, South Carolina. His family drove out to join him. Soon after, the marriage ended and everyone returned to California. In 1975, Bob married Patricia Lauesen and they lived in Buena Park until their marriage ended in 1985.

The last job prior to his retiring in Heath, Ohio, was with Rockwell International where he was a Technical Writer and wrote technical manuals. While on a business trip for Rockwell in the late 1980's, he met the love of his life Patricia Kennedy Losinger. Knowing they were soul mates at first sight, he flew back home to California and Pat flew out to meet him a few weeks later. They gathered his things into his little Ford truck, and headed back to Heath, Ohio, taking in the beauty of the countryside along the way. They remained faithfully by each other's side until her death in 2008.

Bob loved fishing and camping and he even recently purchased a kayak to go fishing in. He spoke of having a cabin by a lake in Heaven, one filled with lots of fish and where he will wait for us in Heaven.

He always maintained his love for traveling and truly enjoyed seeing the countryside. He made sure every trip was an adventure and lots of fun. He was so in tune with nature and took in the beauty of God's creations, photographing all that he could along the way.

His latest adventure was a trip to Maine with his beloved friend Mary Nelson. At a time when his health was starting to fail, this trip brought renewed strength and much peace and happiness to their lives. He loved Mary dearly and she remained by his side until he went home to the Lord.

Bob also had a passion with his family history and spent many hours on genealogy. However, the genealogy record he created wasn't just limited to past names and dates on a family tree, it also included a brief synopsis of the lives of some of his ancestors.

Bob was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 1997and fought the longest and hardest battle of his life. As the cancer became more aggressive, he came to California for the holidays to be with his family. Intending to return back to Ohio one more time, the cancer had other plans and he remained in California with his daughter until his death.

Bob was a special man and a very faithful one. He was a stranger to no one. He made friends wherever he went and always had a smile on his face . His love for the Lord is what gave him the positive attitude that sustained him throughout his life and illness. He could face any challenge because he knew he was safe in God's hands. He shared his faith with anyone that would listen. Although his body was weak, his spirit remained strong. He always put others before himself. Bob knew where he was going, and wanted to share that knowledge so that others would also know the Lord. It was his faith that was a shining beacon to us all.

Surviving are his children, five grandchildren, and his brother Wayne (Kathy) from Fallbrook, California. He leaves behind many loved ones, nieces and nephews, and cherished friends both in California and in Ohio.
