Robert James Thomas

A memorial service for Robert James Thomas, 67, of Newark, formerly of Granville, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 24, 2011 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Stephen J. Cramer officiating. A graveside service will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville where a masonic service will be held.

Bob died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus due to complications of pneumonia. He was born October 9, 1943 in Newark to the late Dr. Owen E. and Gladys M. (Maxwell) Thomas.

A life-long member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Bob was also a 32 year member of Center Star Lodge #11 F&AM. He completed the York Rite and was a member of the Aladdin Shrine Temple. Bob served as an officer many times in these organizations and greatly enjoyed playing in the Shriners marching band.

Bob was a graduate of Granville High School class of 1963. He was a member of the high school marching band and was active in Boy Scouts. He greatly enjoyed participating in the Scout Jamboree a couple years consecutively. He was previously employed with the State of Ohio Department of Transportation for 22 years working with the road crews or as a radio operator.

Surviving are his brother, Norman L. Thomas of Hamilton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue Ann and Benjamin Tatham of Dorking Surrey, England and Patricia and Richard Werner of Corvallis, Oregon; seven nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and nephews.
