Granville

A funeral service celebrating the life of Rose Mary (Porter) Hall, age 92, of Granville, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home with Rose’s grandson, Nathan Hall, officiating. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, at the funeral home, 133 South Prospect Street in Granville.

Rose was born July 5, 1931 in Denver, Colorado to the late William Ralph and May Elinor (Green) Porter. She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Rose was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, aunt, and sister to her large and loving family. Rose spent her early childhood in Denver, after which her family moved to the gold mining town of Victor, Colorado. She graduated from the Colorado State College of Education and followed her mother and grandmother into teaching, beginning in Fort Collins, Colorado. While there, she met her future husband, Herbert Hall of Granville, who was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Rose and Herb’s path led them back to his hometown where they raised five boys and where she had a long career as a tutor at Granville High School. She was also a long-time classroom teacher at Hillcrest Church of Christ near Utica. A gentle and kind soul, Rose truly loved and cared about those around her. Her family and friends miss her deeply but feel so blessed to have been part of her life.

She is survived by five sons, Ralph B. (Nancy) Hall, Herb L. (Roberta) Hall, Jr., Stephen A. Hall, Glenn D. Hall, and Mark M. (Courtney) Hall; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Porter and Arthur Porter; brother-in-law, Frank (Jodi) Hall; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Herbert L. Hall, Sr., who died November 5, 2021; by a sister and brother-in-law, Ethel (Porter) and Gildardo Soriano; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Caroline (Dueck) Porter, Frances (John) Jobe, and Arthur (Imogene) Hall.
