Ruby Elizabeth Curtis

October 24, 1912 — November 11, 2009

A graveside service for Ruby Elizabeth Curtis, 97, of Granville, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville with Pastor Tom Myers officiating.

Mrs. Curtis, a retired food service employee at Denison University, died Nov. 11, 2009 at SharonBrooke in Newark.  She was born Oct. 24, 1912 in Newark to the late James and Ica Jane (Miller) Kirkendall.

A 1932 Granville High School graduate, Ruby was an avid quilter who also enjoyed gardening and camping.  She was especially fond of sewing and playing cards.  Ruby's greatest joy of all was her family and gathering around all the home-cooked, holiday meals she prepared.  She was special in the way she loved all children, including those outside her home. Ruby volunteered and served 21 years in the nursery at Licking Memorial Hospital dressing and tending to babies before they went home.

Ruby was a member of the Welsh Hills Garden Club, Welsh Hills Pinochle Club, and Centenary United Methodist Church Quilters.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Sue Edelman of Marysville; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jo Curtis of Arden, NC, and Donald and Janet Curtis of Granville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Walter H. Curtis, who died April 23, 2001; one great-grandson; two sisters; and three brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Granville Township Fire Department, P.O. Box 202, Granville, Ohio 43023 or to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, Ohio 43055.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the great care given by the staff at SharonBrooke and Hospice of Central Ohio, especially Anne, Amanda, and Vandana.
