A private graveside service will be held for Ruth Elizabeth Munn Avery, 98, of Granville, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with the Rev. Dr. Kathy Fuson Hurt officiating.
Mrs. Avery, a long-time resident of Granville, died May 7, 2008 at Newark Healthcare Center. She was born August 6, 1909 in Cleveland, OH to the late Ray E. and Myrtle (Broer) Munn.
Ruth attended Denison University for three years where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta, then she graduated from Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work. She was member of the First Baptist Church of Granville, and was active in her community belonging to the Granville Garden Club, PEO, Newark TWIG, Darning Club, and The National Society of Colonial Dames of America. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending a life-time of summers at Lake Bellaire, Michigan at her family's cottage.
Surviving are her sons, Dr. William (Patricia) Avery of Grand Rapids, Mich; and Dr. Christopher (Vickie) Avery of Granville; grandchildren, Amanda Bryant, Jason Avery, Laura Avery, M.D., Brian Avery, David Chittenden, and Kristen Faulkner; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Phyllis Martien, and Martha Conway.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, W. Allen Avery, M.D., who died May 25, 1970; her daughter, Leslie Faulkner; and her brother, William Munn.
