A private graveside service for Ruth Geiger-Farr, 92, of Newark, Ohio will be held at Bellevue Cemetery. Ruth died Friday, November 11, 2011 at SharonBrooke. She was born February 9, 1919 in Kinsman, Ohio to the late Rev. Charles R. and Mary (Stemm) McMeeken. The youngest of three children, she attended high school in Bellevue, Ohio and graduated in the Class of 1937. Two years later, she received a degree in Elementary Education from Bowling Green University, and over the years, taught school in Attica, Troy, Tiffin, and Oberlin.
In 1942, she married Bellevue classmate, Donald Geiger, also a graduate of Bowling Green University. The couple lived and taught together in several Ohio Communities before settling in Berea, Ohio in 1956. Ruth changed careers in the 1960's and became a leading salesperson with Bishop Realtors in Berea, and later with Dutcher-Hurd, HGM, and other Realtors in the Greater Cleveland area. Eventually, she entered title work, and joined the Cleveland office of Chicago Title.
Donald Geiger passed away in 1987 after retiring from Cuyahoga Heights High School. Ruth remained active and involved with her Bellevue High School alumni group, and in 1993, married Ted Farr, an old friend from the Class of 1937. The Farrs resided in Grafton and Elyria, Ohio until Mr. Farr's death in 2006. Ruth then moved to central Ohio in order to be closer to family. For the past several years, she had been a resident of SharonBrooke, an assisted living facility in Newark, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by an older sister, Marian Wilkinson of Bradenton, Florida; and an older brother, Lowell McMeeken of Shelby, Ohio. She is survived by her son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Jo-Anne Geiger of Granville, Ohio; daughter, Carol Geiger of Williston, Ohio; grandson and his wife, Christopher and Amanda Geiger of the U.S. Army, stationed in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; and great-granddaughters, Cameran and Caylin Geiger also in Hawaii.
