Ruth V. Sipe

A funeral service celebrating the life of Ruth Valentine Sipe, 96, of Granville, will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Stephen J. Cramer officiating. Burial will follow in Welsh Hills Cemetery, Granville.
Miss Sipe, who retired in 1973 as a secretary at the Centenary United Methodist Church where she had worked since 1959, died Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Kindred Transitional and Rehabilitation Care of Newark. She was born February 14, 1916 in the Welsh Hills of Granville to the late Dora Viola (Hankinson) and Samuel Jones Sipe.
A 1934 graduate of Granville High School, Miss Sipe wrote the "Out of the Past" column published in the Granville Sentinel for several years.
Miss Sipe was an 84 year member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she had served 30 years as the Sunday School Superintendent of the Children's Division, the Morning Glory Circle of the United Methodist Women, and the Ohio Methodist Historical Society. She had served on the Youth Council and as Secretary of the Children's Work of the Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Miss Sipe was a member of the Welsh Hills Garden Club, Ein-Ar-Egan Club, Cambrian Society, and Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and was a Life Member of the Granville Historical Society, which in 1977, named her as "Historian of the Year".
Surviving are her sister Helen J. Marriott of Newark and several loving nieces and nephews.
Miss Sipe was preceded in death by her brother, W. David Sipe; sisters, Adaline J. Foster, Thelma J. Jones, Anna Mae Jones, G. Alberta Ickes, M. Phyllis Brookbank and Alyce R. Copas.
