A graveside service honoring the life of Sally L.W. Hannahs, 87, of Heath, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 20, 2019 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant.
A retired educator and Principal, Sally passed away December 17, 2019 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center in Newark. She was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Lewis and Elizabeth “Blackie” Wolfendale.
A member of the class of 1950 at Holy Family High School, Sally went on to complete her Master’s degree at The Ohio State University. She enjoyed a 30 year career in education working with both Lakewood Local Schools and Newark City Schools where she was an administrator.
Sally enjoyed traveling, most especially visiting the landscapes of Thailand and Alaska and touring South Africa four times. She was an ardent Bridge player, devoted to helping people though her actions as a dispatcher and housing facilitator with St. Vincent de Paul, and enjoyed her affiliation with the Women of St. Edward and being a parishioner at The Church of St. Edward the Confessor. She will be remembered for her community involvement in both Newark and Granville working with the Boosters, the annual Ox Roast, and Lions Club. Sally always felt her true calling was raising her kids and doing her best.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Michael S. Hannahs, David T. Hannahs, Mark W. and Debra Hannahs, Kristy and Bob Feil, and Cindy and Rick Frye; former daughter-in-law, Susan Hannahs; grandchildren, Joseph, Leah, Bobby, Megan, Elizabeth, Sara, Meagan, and Taylor; great grandchildren, Hannah, Jett, Lauren, Brecken, and Jace; and dedicated and spoiled feline companion, Sophia.
In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Hannahs who died in 1977.
