A Mass of Christian Burial for Sheldon E. Humiston, 85, of Newark, formerly of Rye, NH, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 785 Newark-Granville Road, Granville, with Monsignor Paul Enke officiating.

Mr. Humiston, beloved husband, father and "everyone's friend", died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark.  He was born October 14, 1922 in Hanover, NH to the late Elmer and Beatrice (Poulan) Humiston.

Sheldon was a life long resident of New England until moving to the Granville area in 2006.  He graduated from Hanover High School, attended Worcester Junior College in Worcester Mass., and served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945.  A civil engineer, he retired from Underwood Engineering and Associates, in Portsmouth, NH.  His former construction projects included the New York State Niagara Power Authority Dams in Niagra Falls, NY, and Gilboa, NY, and the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant in Seabrook, NH.

An athlete and avid sportsman his entire life, Sheldon enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping and fishing.  A huge fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, he once was recruited by the Red Sox to play semi-pro ball. His passions live on in his grandchildren.  His greatest joys in life were his family, the outdoors, and animals.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Doris (Simoneau) Humiston of Newark; daughters, Kathleen (David) Wilkins of Granville, and Shelley (John) Wadsworth of Escondido, CA; grandchildren, Charles (Monique) Coleman of Sacramento, CA, Christine Coleman of Los Angeles, CA, D. Matthew Wilkins of Chicago, IL, Scott Wilkins of Granville, and Meghan (Colin) Davis of DePere, Wisc; great-grandchildren, Madison and McKenna Coleman, and Katie Rose and Aidan Davis; sister, Joyce Lounsbury of Meredith, NH; and best friend, T.T..
