Shirley A. Sullivan age 85 of Heath and formerly of Granville, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Selma Markowitz Center in Newark while surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 31, 1938, in Newark to the late Albert and Edith (Thompson) Smith.
Shirley was a former member of the Welsh Hills Baptist Church and a current member of the Second Baptist Church of Newark, where she served as a Deacon. She spent her career working in food service for numerous places including the Buxton Inn, Valley Lanes and the Legend Inn. She was also employed at Sears and Roebuck.
Shirley enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, NASCAR, bus trips with her family and riding through the countryside with her husband, John in his semi-truck. She belonged to the Sharon Valley Club and Crafty Ladies. Shirley was a military wife and mother. Her greatest love was that of her family whom she cherished.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John L. Sullivan in September of 2019; daughter, Deborah Martin; sister, Revella Brumage; brother, Edward Smith; son-in-law, Arthur Martin; daughter-in-law, Teena Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Fred Brumage, Forrest Whitehouse; nephew-in-law, TJ Cozzens.
Shirley is survived by her children, Michael (Janice) Sullivan, granddaughter, Miranda Sullivan; great grandchildren, Dylan (Kyla) Sullivan, Alyssa Thibodaux and Nevaeh Donaldson; siblings, Donald (Thelma) Smith, Gerry Whitehouse; sister-in-law, Rachel Smith; numerous nieces and nephews including Annie Cozzens and Susie (Todd) Bowen.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM, Friday, August 2, 2024, at McPeek Hoekstra Hoskinson Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville, Ohio 43023 where a funeral service will begin at 3 PM Friday with Pastor Ralph Gordon officiating.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville, Ohio
