Sidney A Cottrell

November 25, 1917 — April 6, 2008

A memorial service for Sidney Alfred Cottrell, 90, of Newark, formerly of Granville, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville, with the Rev. Karen J. Chakoian and Pastor Tom Myers officiating.

Mr. Cottrell, a retired vice president for Hoosier Engineering Company, passed away Sunday at Arlington Care Center in Newark. He was born November 17, 1917 in South Bend, IN, to the late Sidney and Cecil (Hudson) Cottrell.

Following his retirement, Mr. Cottrell moved to Florida and enjoyed working at Golf Works at Disney World until he was 80 years of age.  Included among his many interests were his love of travel, aviation, scuba diving, camping, woodcarving and sailing.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Margaret (Brady) Cottrell; son and daughter-in-law, Sidney M. and Terri Cottrell of Hemet, CA; daughters and sons-in-law, Signe and Paul Stephens of Apopka, FL, and Susan and Larry Ward of Granville; grandchildren and their spouses, Scott Roberts, Steve and Sandy Roberts, Beth (Roberts) and Robert Porter, Chad Cottrell, Chaun Cottrell, Andre and Amber Cottrell, Drew and Karen Ward, and Laura (Ward) and Jim Parnell; great-grandchildren, Joe and David Roberts, Sidney Cottrell, and Brittney Porter; great- great-grandchildren, Chloe Roberts and Addison Cottrell; two brothers; and one sister.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, and one grandson.

The family wishes to thank Sandy Hill, Kathy Bricker, and Jodie Crecca for their constant love and devotion.  The family is also very appreciative of the staff of Hospice of Central Ohio and Arlington Care Center, especially Allison who brought much joy to Sid, for all the loving care and devotion to Sid and his family.
