A private graveside service for Stanley Jay Elliott, 92, of Granville, will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Mr. Elliott, who retired in 1974 as Director of Switching Apparatus Laboratory in Columbus, OH, after 36 years of service, died Friday, May 25, 2007, at Kendal at Granville. He was born October 6, 1914 in El Centro, California to the late Stanley and Johnnie (McNeill) Elliott.
Stanley was a graduate of San Rafael Military Academy in San Rafael, CA. He attended Modesto Jr. College and later graduated with his B.S. in 1937 and his M.S. in 1938 in Electrical Engineering from University of California at Berkeley.
While at Bell Labs, Mr. Elliott joined the Technical Staff of Bell Labs in New York City in 1938. During his career with Bell Labs, he engaged in the development of telephone switching apparatus, interconnecting devices and processes, and a number of military projects, including early radar systems, missile systems, and a submarine cable system.
Mr. Elliott was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the American Society for Quality Control, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Beta Kappa, and an associate member of Sigma Xi .
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ruth Hayes Elliott; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Hoefling Hayes, Hilton Head Island, SC.; and two nieces and two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
