Stephen L. Farris

Stephen Farris died unexpectedly at his home in Delaware, Ohio. He was 54.

Born in Medford, Massachusetts, Stephen moved to Granville from Bloomington, Indiana, with his family in 1981. He graduated from Granville High School in1987, playing soccer 4 years and playing saxophone in the band. After beginning college at the University of Wisconsin, he transferred to Ohio Wesleyan for the opportunity of an internship at Marvel Comics in NYC, where he would work under the legendary comic artist Stan Lee. His time at Marvel Comics was a milestone in his lifetime love of comics and drawing.

He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1992, followed by 2 years at Columbus College of Art & Design. Stephen had an expert grasp of a wide variety of subjects–from his encyclopedic knowledge of movies to his love for inventive cooking (especially his sous vide). He was the quintessential fun uncle–goofy and generous. He looked on his nieces and nephews with a sense of wonder. He shared his deep appreciation for beauty and creativity (in music, movies, books, art, and food) to the benefit of those around him.

He leaves behind his grandmother, Emilia Carlson; his parents, Jon and Dagmar Farris; his beloved sisters, Christie Oberg (Johan) and Rachel Mattison (Mike); his adoring nieces and nephews: Linnea Oberg, Oliver Oberg, and Maia Oberg, Lucas Mattison, Zachary Mattison, and Hannah Mattison; aunts Linda Carlson (Larry Himelfarb and son Eric), Christie Carlson (Phil Kasdan), uncle Carl Carlson (Nanci and daughters Mia and Kiri), and uncle William Farris (sons Bill, Chris, Michael and Stephen).

Stephen was our center. We will always love him and keep him close in our hearts.

In lieu of a memorial service, the family will gather privately.
