Sybil S. (Spray) Robertson

A celebration of life service for Sybil Florence Spray Robertson will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23, at the United Church of Granville, 115 W. Broadway in Granville, with the Rev. Dwight Davidson officiating. Private interment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.

Sybil Robertson, daughter of the late Ellsworth R and Myrtle M. Bode Spray, died Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Chestnut House Assisted Living with family at her side.

Born May 12, 1922, in West Virginia, Sybil was 3 when her family moved to a farm near Granville. A 1940 graduate of Granville High School, she met the love of her life, William Neil Robertson, at Grange Hall dances, and they married in 1942 while he served in the Marine Corps. She worked at People's State Bank and the Town and Gown in Granville.

A loving mother, wife, and grandmother, Sybil was kind and generous and always had a ready smile. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church (now United Church of Granville) for 80 years. She served in the American Baptist Women's Society and volunteered a great deal of time in the church office. She enjoyed bridge and pinochle groups, painting, gardening, and exacting handwork. Her family will remember her fine cooking, particularly her rhubarb custard pie.

Surviving are her sons, Bill (Anna) Robertson of St. Clairsville, Mike (Lyn) Robertson of Granville, Joe (Evelyn) Robertson of Richardson, TX, and Randy Robertson of Granville; sister, Eleanor Jean Landis; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

She is preceded in death by her husband and five siblings, Mildred Parker, Grace Walters, John Spray, Richard Spray, and Violet Postle.
