Virginia was born October 11, 1916 in Columbus to the late Margaret Lewis and James MacFarlane Andrew.
Virginia was a Granville High School graduate and attended Hollins University in Roanoke, VA for two years before graduating from Denison University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. At age four, Virginia rode her pony in a horse-show in Keswick, VA where began her love of horseback riding. Her family moved to Granville when she was twelve and was able to continue her love of riding. While living there, Virginia enjoyed her association with the Princeton Packet Newspapers, as well as reading for 'Recordings For the Blind' and tutoring English.
